When technology fails to replicate nature, what new potentials emerge?
Hybrid Botany is a multi-year body of research into what happens when 3D scanning and printing attempt to replicate a flower. Its delicate transparencies, hidden folds and layered structures resist digital capture, exposing the limits of both technologies. Instead of fixing these errors, we keep them: they bring a natural dimension back into the replicated object.
The printed surfaces come out fragile, and invite a quiet empathy. They raise a question for future materials: could they age, weather and evoke empathy, the way natural materials do over time?
