Can thorns evolve to be more empathetic? What should remain, and what might we change?
Wild thorn flowers native to Israel evolved sharp, defensive shapes to survive. They play an important role in the ecosystem, yet are often seen as a problem: they sting and help spread wildfires. With designer Yuri Movshovich, we created a speculative series of thorn structures that question how we choose to reshape nature.
Developed through parametric modelling in Grasshopper, the designs retain core thorn morphologies while proposing new forms of coexistence: softened edges, protective cages and rounded loops that preserve defense while inviting emotional connection
